How to Take Full Page or Scrolling Screenshots on iPhone

Hey friends, Jessica here!
We all know how easy it is to take a regular screenshot on iPhone—just press a couple of buttons and you’re done. But what if you want to capture an entire webpage, email, or chat thread that goes beyond one screen? That’s where full page or scrolling screenshots come in.

In today’s guide, I’ll show you step by step how to do it, when you can use it, and how to save or share those long screenshots with ease.

What is a Full Page Screenshot?

A full page (or scrolling) screenshot lets you capture content that extends beyond your visible screen. Instead of taking multiple screenshots and stitching them together, iPhone does the work for you.

For example:

  • A long webpage in Safari
  • An entire PDF
  • A lengthy email in Mail app

Where Full Page Screenshots Work (and Don’t Work)

  • Works in Safari, Mail, and some other Apple apps.
  • Doesn’t work in every app (like Messages, Instagram, or WhatsApp). For those, you’ll need third-party apps.

So if you’re trying to capture a long chat or a social media feed, the built-in feature won’t cover it.

How to Take a Full Page Screenshot on iPhone

Here’s the step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Take a Screenshot

  • For Face ID iPhones: Press Side button + Volume Up.
  • For Touch ID iPhones: Press Home button + Side/Top button.

The screen will flash, and you’ll see a thumbnail appear at the bottom left.

Step 2: Tap the Thumbnail

  • Tap the screenshot thumbnail quickly before it disappears.
  • This will open the screenshot editor.

Step 3: Select “Full Page”

  • At the top, you’ll see two tabs: Screen and Full Page.
  • Tap Full Page.
  • You’ll now see a scrollable preview of the entire page or document.

Step 4: Markup or Edit (Optional)

You can:

  • Use markup tools (pen, highlighter, text, shapes).
  • Crop sections if you don’t want the entire page.

Step 5: Save or Share

  • Tap Done → Choose Save PDF to Files.
  • Or tap the Share icon to send via Mail, AirDrop, or Messages.

Note: Full page screenshots save as PDFs, not images.

Where Do They Save?

  • By default, they go to the Files app, not Photos.
  • Open Files app → Browse → look for the saved PDF.

If you need it as an image, you can later convert the PDF to JPG using a shortcut, online tool, or third-party app.

How to Take Scrolling Screenshots in Other Apps

Since Apple only allows full page screenshots in Safari and certain apps, you’ll need extra tools for others.

Option 1: Use Third-Party Apps

Apps like:

  • Tailor (for stitching multiple screenshots)
  • Picsew
  • LongShot

These apps can merge screenshots into one long image.

Option 2: Use Screen Recording

If scrolling screenshots aren’t supported, record your screen:

  1. Go to Settings → Control Center → Add Screen Recording.
  2. Swipe down from Control Center → Tap the record button.
  3. Scroll through your content → Stop recording.

This gives you a video instead of a screenshot.

Pro Tips from Jessica

  • Always make sure you scroll to the top of the page before capturing.
  • Use markup for quick notes—perfect for saving recipes, study material, or tutorials.
  • If you’re sharing online, convert PDFs into images for easier viewing.
  • For long chat screenshots, third-party apps are your best friend.

When Should You Use Full Page Screenshots?

  • Research articles
  • Online shopping receipts
  • Email threads
  • Tutorials or guides
  • Saving entire webpages for offline reference

Final Thoughts

Taking a full page or scrolling screenshot on iPhone is simple—but only works in Safari, Mail, and certain apps. For everything else, you’ll need third-party apps or clever alternatives.

Whether you’re saving an entire web article or keeping a PDF record of something important, this feature is a real time-saver.

So the next time you’re scrolling through something important, don’t settle for multiple screenshots—go full page instead!
